Inspired by Ballet

I love ballet. Everything about it is passion and beauty and dedication and commitment. I love the juxtaposition of the grace and lightness of movement with the perfectly disciplined lines and the hard muscles of the dancers. I love the lace and tulle and silk. And as much as I love to read and love language, the nonverbal expression of emotion through movement is really enticing. Perhaps it's time to dance.

Happy Autumn

I just realized that my month of Picture-A-day (or at least Picture-A-Workday) is complete. I don't think I am ready to give it up though, so I won't. It's my blog, and I can do what I want!

And what I really want is to feel Fall in my skin and my soul the way I do at home. It's almost like withdrawal, it's so strong, this need. So I am going to live it out here and in my head, retreat inside my brain and try to really feel the season draping itself across the cracks and heat of summer like a delicious cloud of spice and wool and fog and leaves.

So in my head today, I'm packing up a scooter, taking to the leaf-strewn streets, and retreating to the woods to read and write and roll in piles of leaves under trees and wrap up in plaid blankets and to drink coffee with nutmeg and to smile.

I am sorry I'm so obsessed with Fall lately, but I just need it right now.

Rrrring!

There is something romantic, and dare I say it?, sexy about rotary telephones. I've liked them for as long as I can remember, especially after seeing them in all my favorite movies.

I just love the act of dialing, the anticipation built by the slow process, the whirring noise, the heaviness of the receiver...it makes placing a call seem like an event. Something definitely missing in the wireless age.↑

Also, I used to believe this was the perfect present, but now with Ebay, it might be a little less special.

Time Again to Get Out of Town

It's been almost two months since I got home from my trip, and I'm feeling antsy to get going somewhere again. I keep telling K that I want to at least go on a mini road trip, perhaps to the desert...just pack a bag and go. ↑

Or maybe we can drive up north, take the ocean route. ↑

I want to stay in a motel with a pool, leave my cell phone and computer at home, bring some books and my camera and just take it easy for a weekend. Unfortunately, this weekend is all booked, but soon. Very soon. ↑

And maybe next year, if I plan it right, I'll be here again. *sigh* photo by me

And, in pretty much the opposite vein, here's the Picture-A-Day:

Oh, and have a great weekend!

I ♥ Horses

I don't watch a lot of TV, especially because I don't get any channels, but I do catch up on my favorites via DVD from time to time. Lately, I've been watching season 2 of Mad Men. I could go on for days about the fabulous clothes, hair and sets, but I'm mentioning the show only because of how much Betty's new hobby (no, NOT the washer and dryer) reminded me of how much I used to love riding horses. I used to ride fairly often when I was younger, and my first job was cleaning horse stables (which is a lot more fun than one might imagine). There's nothing like going on a brisk ride in an open field to really invigorate the senses. I think it's time to look into horseback riding opportunities around here. Plus, they are just such beautiful creatures, merely looking at them is a pleasure.

I Want to Hear the Leaves Crunch

↑ Ah, fall is continues to call out to me. I really want to get somewhere with trees that change and air that is crisp and where the sun is a little bit sharper, yet half hidden by clouds.
Fashion continues to be on the brain as well, and I really want to see this.
